Western Thistles
Blending old-time roots with modern-day storytelling, The Western Thistles are an Edmonton folk duo known for their clawhammer banjo, rhythm guitar, and rich vocal harmonies. The group was born from the musical connection between Mark Boer and Sabrina (Bri) Huot-Boer, who came together to weld their talents for the sake of the song. Their sound draws from folk, roots, and old-time traditions while carving out a space distinctly their own.
In 2025, The Western Thistles released their self-titled debut album, recorded live off the floor and co-produced by Miles Wilkinson (Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Darrell Scott). The album reached #26 on CKUA’s Top 100 most-played albums of the year, standing as a testament to their commitment to crafting songs with heart, grit, and intention.
As songwriters and performers, they channel lived experience into work that reflects both personal narrative and musical lineage. Rooted in a dedication to craft, they shape songs that foster connection, creating space for listeners to hear their own stories reflected in the music.
Road to Django
The Road to Django celebrates the music of Django Reinhardt and traces it’s origins following the migratory path of the Roma people and their music.
From northern India to Spain, through Turkey and the Balkans, to France and the swinging heart of hotclub, Cam Neufeld and the Gadjo Collective weave their way through the musical traditions adopted by the Roma as they migrated throughout Europe. This is the trail that Cam traveled while researching, studying and composing with Master Roma musicians on his many excursions to this road. With a dynamic and diverse assortment of musicians, this show will take you from the Roma roots to the Swing era of the Hotclub of France.
Love Empire
Love Empire was established in 2024 by original members of JUNO nominated Souljah Fyah (SJF) and Isokan Africa. The mission is to chant light into the shadows, lifting up sounds of compassion and peace toward all people. Members draw on eclectic influences to wake up your soul, connecting us once again on the reggae dance floor.
While Love Empire is a young band, it comprises seasoned members, and marks a long-awaited comeback for SJF frontwoman Waymatea 'Sista J' Ellis. Their anticipated debut performance in February 2025 at Edmonton's legendary Yardbird Suite was a sold out show. This group is just getting started, and they're ready to spread the reggae message of love and kindness in a time when the world seems to be needing it the most.
